Attention waste management enthusiasts! Mark your calendars for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tour a fully operational Waste to Energy (WTE) plant tour in Sarpsborg, Norway.

Great Southern Waste and SOLO Resource Recovery have announced an exciting Study Tour to Sarpsborg, Norway, targeted specifically to assist Local Councils in the South-East of Melbourne. The Tour will offer an exclusive opportunity to explore the proven benefits of Waste To Energy technology, which is rapidly emerging as a sustainable alternative to traditional landfill disposal methods.

The proposed Tour will visit a fully operational plant in Sarpsborg, which uses the same cutting-edge Energos Technology that Great Southern is planning to implement in their WTE development in Dandenong South. Participants will have full access to the plant’s operations and will be able to engage with technology owners and staff, providing an unparalleled opportunity to learn firsthand about this revolutionary waste management solution.

Waste To Energy technology has been gaining traction worldwide due to its many benefits, including the potential for significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, improved energy efficiency, and increased resource recovery. By embracing this technology, Local Councils in the South-East of Melbourne can make a significant contribution to the global effort to combat climate change while also achieving more sustainable waste management practices.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to learn about the future of waste management and register your interest now!

The Tour

12-14 spots available

Monday, May 22, 2023

Participants will gather at CBD Oslo and then travel by bus to the Plant, which is roughly a 1 to 1.5 hour drive away. In order to ensure safety, all participants are required to bring their own personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, a hard hat, a hi-viz vest, and closed-toe boots.

During the visit, participants will be guided through the plant, starting from the waste receival hall and moving through the feed process. There will be opportunities to view the gasification process through special viewing sections, follow the bottom ash streams, and even enter the control room to observe real-time operational data. Participants will also have the chance to speak with day shift staff, with translations provided if needed from Norwegian to English.

The group will return to CBD Oslo in the mid-afternoon, with no specific activities planned for the return journey.

Tuesday May 23, 2023 (with Q&A session with technology owners)

Attendees will convene at the Energos offices in Oslo, or an alternate appropriate location, for an extended Q&A session with Energos, Great Southern, and SOLO Waste. There is a possibility, pending availability, that Great Southern’s EPC Construction Contractor and O&M Operators may also be present, but this is yet to be confirmed.

If time permits, there will be an opportunity for a casual and relaxed social gathering prior to departing for home.

Terms & Conditions

The dates may change subject to the level of interest and attendees’ availability, so there is some flexibility to accommodate changes and maximise the opportunity.

Due to the limited number of places available (12-14), interested parties are requested to register their interest and pose any immediate queries by correspondence to info@gswt.net.au no later than Friday, April 14, 2023.

Participants will be responsible for their own travel, travel insurance, and accommodation costs, while Great Southern will arrange and provide bus ground transport for Monday, May 23, to and from the site plant, as well as light refreshments for the Q&A session on Tuesday, May 24.

While photography is generally allowed, please note that this is subject to plant conditions and may be confirmed on-site. The visit is not scheduled to have a specific time limit, so please expect to spend 2 to 4 hours on-site and bring any snacks that you may need.

We would like to express our appreciation to the Australian Norwegian Chamber of Commerce for their support.
