Turning left over food and grease into power

Andrews Labour Government has launched a recycling facility in Melton that will treat up to 5,000 kilolitres of food waste and convert it into biogas energy, producing enough energy to power the Western Water recycled water plant.

Following a Waste to Energy Study tour by a City of Greater Dandenong to China. The Delegation  acquired a better understanding of waste to energy technology and how they might be adopted to service the waste disposal needs for the City of Greater Dandenong as a viable alternative to landfill.

Victorian EPA Works Approval

On 23 October 2019, EPA received a works approval application from Great Southern Waste Technologies Pty Ltd. On the 20 July 2020, EPA has issued a works approval for the GSWT waste to energy project.

Waste to energy plant wins National Innovation Award

A Victorian waste to energy plant has won the Australian Water Association’s (AWA) National Innovation Award. Yarra Valley Water’s “ReWaste” facility took out the award, one of the Australian water industry’s highest accolades for innovation.

Victoria Circular Economy Policy

Infrastructure Victoria has published the final advice to government on recycling and resource recovery infrastructure in Victoria. The advice includes 13 recommendations that were developed in consultation with government and stakeholders including a waste-to-energy recommendation.

WMAA Netherlands case study

In conjunction with recycling, waste to energy technologies have assisted the Netherlands to achieved 0% of residential waste going to landfill. With 64% of residential waste being recycled and 36% sent to waste to energy facilities. This is compared to Victoria’s municipal recovery rate of 41%.
